Fierce Women – A Book Review & A Giveaway

When I think of “Fierce Women” I don’t think of the meek & quiet spirit talked about in 1 Peter 3 so when I was asked to review Fierce Women by Kimberly Wagner I did not know what to expect when I began my journey through this book.  As a self-described “fierce woman” myself I thought perhaps I would get kicked around a bit by this book and I was right, but in an honest and convicting way.

I've talked on a few occasions about myself at the beginning of our marriage.  You can read about that here & here.  Although, I can say with truth that God has changed my heart in a big way these past 6 years of marriage I will say that the hearts of the women discussed & shared in this book gave me true biblical encouragement.  I cannot emphasize the REALNESS of the words in this book and the encouragement it will bring to married women of all ages.  We all have so many of the same struggles.  I think it is important to note that Wagner refers back to the Cross over and over again.  I've highlighted and noted all over my copy and one reference of note that struck me with such truth is:

“The most important lesson I've learned in letting go of hurt is that: I cannot keep the biblical standard of forgiveness…without returning to the cross and relying on His grace.
Going to the cross and focusing on the forgiveness I've been shown by a sinless Savior gives me the only perspective for understanding and offering forgiveness.  Going to the cross reminds me of what really matters, so I can release the stuff that really doesn't.”

“Fierce Women” is filled with gently, yet strongly (in true fierce women fashion) delivered statements like the above.

God wants us to be fierce women for the cross and the best way we can do that as a married woman is by fiercely defending and loving our husbands and our marriages.  After all, the most perfect reflection of Christ’s love for his church is a biblical marriage.

I am beyond blessed to be able to offer one winner a copy of Fierce Women by Kimberly Wagner.  To read this book is to be changed.  Enter via rafflecopter below.

Blog Design, That Song in My Head & Giveaway Stuff

A new blog design has been rolling around in my head for about a month now and I finally buckled down and did it this weekend.  What I love about my old design was that it had meaning!  It was all about my kids.  Heck they were all over it!  That lent itself to memories; which is one of the reasons this blog was born.  With my new design I wanted to keep those memories but simplify the design.  I wanted to stick with the “party” theme since my blog name states just that.  And with those ideas in hand the firework idea came.  I took quite a few pictures of the fireworks while we were down in Florida this summer and I thought if I could figure out how to edit them enough to make them into the calming color scheme I was desiring, I would be happy.  A little time and experimentation in Photoscape & PicMonkey and here we are.

I LOVE how my blog design still has a special meaning for me but that simplistic look I love.

Switching gears now…Have you guys seen this video?  My girl Brooke shared it on Facebook and I think it’s AWESOME!  So funny!!

Now, you will be singing “Call Me Maybe” all day too.  You are welcome.

Oh, and don’t forget to enter the current GIVEAWAY going on now!

How Sweet The Sound & a Giveaway

Hi y'all over here at the HOUTZ PARTY! Don't you just love Kelly!?! Someday Me, Brooke and Kelly ARE gonna get together! I'm Tif and I blog over at Ramblings of a Southern Belle I love fashion, bargain shopping, family, memories, DIY's, but most of all I love writing and singing worship songs!

Writing and singing worship songs was never something I thought was in my future! During one Church service I was worshiping and it just hit my heart that I was supposed to be singing the Lord's praises! It's a long story...but that moment led me to the Church Choir and eventually to Sarah Kelly. She leads worship at my Church and is amazing! She sang back up for Jars of Clay on "Amazing Grace" and has had 2 Grammy nominations. When I met her she told me she was opening a school...I knew it was a God thing!

Doesn't she have a cool sound!?! I began taking classes at Sarah's school over a year ago. In my class I have learned to write, sing and play my very own songs! Now, I'm no songbird...I don't claim to be a grammy winning singer...and I do not see myself on tour...lol...but if I can touch just one person with my songs...then I've done exactly what I wanted to do! My voice has come a LONG way...but mostly my confidence has come a long way. I am now praying that I can find a Church that I can join a worship team.

I have written and recorded 5 songs, my two favorite are SO DIFFERENT! The first one is more of a hymn, its called "Blessed Be" and I wrote it (giggles) while stirring mashed potatoes last Thanksgiving Day!

"Beloved Masterpiece" was written after I looked in the mirror one day and didn't like what I saw...I walked out of the room and when I walked back in I saw a picture on my wall...it says "Princess, Daughter of a King, Cherished" and much more. I knew God was speaking right to me at that moment!

Like I said...I still have a long way to go vocally...but the message in the songs...THAT is what I'm really happy about! Ok...I could go on and on and on hence "THE RAMBLING SOUTHERN BELLE" LOL! But lets get to the giveaway...that is the fun part! Thanks for reading, thanks for entering, thanks for the follows and thanks for being such a blessing in my life!

Coming Through the Brokenness with Jess @ My Little Mustache

Today I bring to you my new friend Jess.  Jess blogs over @ My Little Mustache. She humbles me with her bravery in speaking of HARD things and encourages me beyond her realization.  I promise you that you will love her soul as much as I do.

PS:  She's also generous!  She's giving away an ABSOLUTELY BEYOND ADORABLE item from her shop!!!

Thank you so much for being here today girl!
---

I worked in full time ministry a little over five years and left when I became pregnant with Judah. During those years I poured my heart and soul into my work. Made sure everything was done with “excellence” and made sure people “knew they mattered to God”. I shared my heart with my co-workers and friends but I always had trust issues and felt like I was the black sheep in our flock. One of the reasons why I felt like I didn’t belong was because I came from a very dysfunctional family. Growing up my father was extremely physically and mentally abusive towards us, he spent time in jail for robbing a bank and my mother abandoned us our whole lives.  When she was around we had to try to talk her out of cutting herself. But the main reason why I felt like an outcast was because I came to know the Lord after I had an abortion when I was 17.  When I was pregnant I was dating an abusive boyfriend and when he and his brother found out I was pregnant they both beat me up until I agreed to have an abortion.  This broke me and although I accepted the Lord into my heart a year after I had my abortion I always felt like part of me was untouchable, ruined and I hated myself for not being strong enough to say no to these guys and I was upset that the Lord gave me these hurtful parents.

I thought my years of working in ministry would have helped heal my heart and would have prepared me for when I got pregnant with Judah, our sweet little honeymoon baby. What I wasn’t prepared for was the isolation from the people I used to work with and from people who I thought were dear friends. We fell through the cracks. The people I thought would be there for us were just to busy making sure others knew they mattered to God. So I fell into the darkest depression I’ve ever experienced and since I was already working through some childhood issues with my therapist I started to get angry with God and I wanted nothing to do with Him. Every Tuesday night as I sat in my car outside of my therapists office I would cry and scream to God “its unfair that I have to work through this crap, I didn’t ask for a mother and father that didn’t want me and I don’t know why people abandoned me, I am so angry with you”.

Over the past two years of struggling with hurt and abandonment from the church and some believers I’ve come to realize is:

Summum Bonum. God is the highest good.  Psalm 119:68 “you are good and do good” The Lord is good, therefore all he does must be good no matter how it looks and honestly I can’t wait for the day when I can see the full picture. Right now I can only see my past and compare that to what is going on right now. But if I fill my head and heart with the word I am able to clearly see that God is good and has a reason for what I am going through.

I have to trust on Gods truth long enough until it becomes a belief system in my heart. Then I will be able to automatically act and think in the light of His truth. Psalm 43:4 “Oh send out Your light and Your truth, let them led me; Let them bring me to Your holy hill and to Your dwelling places. “

During the time of healing when your heart is grafting to Christ’s heart and your not fully healed from past trauma. If a believer hurts you it doesn’t mean the entire church has abandoned you. It just feels that way. Trust that the Lord will not only wipe your tears away and heal your broken heart but also trust that He will bring the right people into your life to encourage you on your walk. Joshua 1:5 “I will be with you; I will not fail you or forsake you.”

When I am feeling broken and wounded, when the air can’t fill my lungs fast enough and past regrets try to cling to my soul like old mold. I have to remember that no one and no issue can ever snatch me from Gods hand. John 10:28 “I give eternal life to them, and they will never perish; and no one will snatch them out of My hand. “

Altered in my brokenness
In the light of Your divine love
Faithful you are in righteousness
Although afflicted I look to you above.
-written by Jess West Judkins

It has taken me two years to fully want to open my heart and immerse myself in fellowship with Gods people.  In these two years I’ve learned that God has allowed these hurts to come my way, that they have changed my heart so I am able to cling onto Him more instead of trusting what His people do and think of me. All I have to do is remember He is good, trust in His truth long enough so it becomes a belief system, just because a believer hurts you doesn’t mean all believers are bad and know that nothing can take me away from His loving hands.  God will bring the right people into our lives at the right time. He has allowed me to pull away for a season to wrestle with Him as he heals my heart.

Today's MY day to share something AMAZING on MY HEART as well as give away some fantastic SWAG in honor of it!!!

If you read Nicole's blog then you'd heard Justin and Katy's story from me a time before.  This story is SO precious to me I wanted to share again with all of you!

My cousins Justin & Katy are embarking on the journey of a lifetime.  They are in the process of adopting a little girl from Ghana.  I can’t tell you how their story tugs on my heart strings as we thought our 4th child would actually be an adopted little girl as well.  God had other plans for our 4th child and I gave birth to our little Julia in January of this year.  Perhaps, God still has that little girl out there for us but in the meantime, I feel called to share about Justin and Katy and why they chose to adopt their first child.

The call to adoption came through their overwhelming desire to do something somehow about the orphan crisis in this world.

Did you know that around the world there are an estimated one hundred and forty three million orphans? To give you some perspective of how massive that number is, consider this:

143,000,000 orphans standing shoulder to shoulder will go around the 10,913-mile perimeter of the USA nearly 4 times. They would reach around the earth over 2 times and could fill the University of Oregon football stadium over 2,600 times. Every day, over 42,200 children are orphaned. It is estimated that by the year 2020, with the rate that children are becoming orphaned, there will be more than 200 million children orphaned around the globe- over 2.8% of the world’s population. It’s safe to say that we have a crisis on our hands.   source

That makes my brain hurt and I won’t get started on how my heart feels.  Justin and Katy felt equally convicted to do “do for one what they wish they could do for everyone”.

The good news is that we can all help them with this process.  When I look at my children I want that for Justin and Katy SO badly.  The love they have for their little one already is beyond measure.

They ask first and foremost for prayer.  Will you please join with me in praying?

Pray for the child that will soon become ours. Pray for her safety, health, and happiness. Pray for her birth family. Pray for strength, wisdom and grace for her birth mother. Pray for our adoption agency, Bethany Christian Services. Pray for our caseworker, Erin Meneley. Pray for patience on our behalf as we wait for a referral. Just pray. A.W. Pink says “Prayer is not as much as an act as it is an attitude- an attitude of dependency, complete dependency on God.” We agree.  source
They are also in need of Delta air miles to use for the 2 trips that they will be making to Ghana.
Of course, the tangible need is money as adoption can cost anywhere between $24,000 and $40,000.
There is a fantastic way to help Justin and Katy bring their little lady home!!!  They have partnered with an organization called Just Love Coffee.  This company will generously donate $5 from every bag of coffee sold to their adoption fund!!!  God is GOOD isn’t he?!  Click here to buy yours today.  You can also give directly to their adoption fund without buying coffee.  Click here to donate even $1!  Every little bit helps!  Where we lack, God picks up the slack!  He WILL provide!
You can follow their journey to their little girl by reading their blog Doing for One.
As a THANK YOU , I'm offering a PRIZE PACK which includes:

A $30 Anthropologie Gift Card!!!!!

Your choice of African Single Origin Coffees from Just Love Coffee AS WELL AS a Large Ad Space on my blog!!!!

Salena, of A Little Piece of Me, has also generously donated a prize to go toward this wonderful cause! She is such an inspiration to all of us here in the blogging community, a beautiful soul and wonderful role model. Her heart for family, and parenting in particular, touches each one of us as we read her words and glimpse into her life as a mother. She had a few words to share with us all on what it means to her to be a parent and wishes Justin and Katy the best on their journey to becoming parents.
When I was little I never wanted to have kids, I cannot stand pain and did not want to endure labor and childbirth. Little did I know that God had other plans for me. I have 6 kids (3 adults and 3 little ones) ages 27, 24, 23, 7, 5, and 3. You can read more about my story here. Being a parent has many challenges and joys. The most incredible thing about it is the unconditional love and forgiveness my kids show me daily. I get to experience God's grace so many times a day through my kids. They love me and show their appreciation for me in times when I don't deserve it. When I'm feeling like a failure, they are there to tell me I'm the best mom ever and they would not trade me for anyone else. Sometimes I think back and wonder how things would be if I never had kids. I cannot imagine my life without them. Through them, I am reminded daily about God's miracles, grace, and love.
